Amalienburg - Nymphenburg Palace

Amalienburg Rückseite

From 1734 - 39 Elector Karl Albrecht had this beautiful Rococo pavilion built for his hunt-inspired wife Maria Amalie by Francois Cuvilliés. Famous artists, like the stukkateur Johann Baptist Zimmermann and the yard-sculptor Johann Joachim Dietrich were responsible for the interior design of the pavilion. The "Spiegelsaal" (Hall of Mirrors) forms the center of the "Amalienburg", held in blue and silver with hunting images.
Spiegelsaal
On both sides of the "Spiegelsaal" there are two more rooms, a small and a bigger one. South of it the "Ruhezimmer" (bedroom) held in silver and yellow, showing portraits of Karl Albrecht and his wife in riding costumes (by Georges Desmarées), followed by the "Blaue Kabinett" (Blue Cabinet). North of the "Spiegelsaal" you will find the "Jagdzimmer" (Hunting Room) and the "Fasanenzimmer" (Pheasant Room).

Ausschnitt Küche
Maria Amalie loved her hunting dogs very much and had the unique "Hundekammer" (Dog room) furnished for them with quiet corners for the dogs and cabinets for the guns. It is said that the Electress cooked herself. The walls of her artistic kitchen are decorated with blue and white as well as coloured Dutch tiles. The ceiling is painted with blue chinoiseries on a white background, the work of Joseph Pascalin Moretti. While standing on the balcony of her single-storey pavilion Maria Amalie was able to shoot pheasants.
