If you take the U-Bahn
U2 or U3 to "Olympiazentrum", you may leave
the subway station at Petuelring where the
headquarters of the Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW) is
located at the Petuelring.
The Viennese architect K. Schwarzer had the original and appropriate idea to accomodate the famous automobile company in the shape of an outsized four-cylinder engine. The biggest four-cylinder in the world, i.e. 19 storeys high, rises up into the sky shaped as a cloverleaf. You might say that this cloverleaf incurred the luck in business affairs BMW takes pride in since 1973. The flat factory buildings that are adjacent to the headquarters counterweigh the towering four-cylinder and end in a giant silver "egg cup" that houses the BMW museum.
The museum presents the technical evolution of the automobile, especially BMW automobile, through during the 20th century in overwhelming multi-media fashion. Nevertheless the exhibition is worth to be taken a look at and may even appeal to children. From veteran chugalong to the newest BMW car, you can find here nearly everything considered important in automobile history. The highlight is the spectacluar cinemascope show on automobile history.
