The first and oldest street of munich, which has been very
important for the development of the city, is the "Briennerstraße". This royal
street was originally a country lane which the Bavarian princes used to get to their
summer residence
Nymphenburg
palace.
The Briennerstraße was planned by K.Fischer in 1804 - 1814 and extended by L. Klenze to a boulevard. It combines the Odeonsplatz with the Stiglmaierplatz, continues thereafter as "Nymphenburger Straße" and ends in front of the Nymphenburg palace.
The Briennerstraße (named after the victory of the Allies over Napoleon in 1814 near Brienne) is the first address and shopping area of the "high society". Here you find Cartier and some better furniture shops and also the shopping center "Luitpold Block".
Inside Cafe Luitpold you can take a rest if the shopping was very exhausting.
