The "Bürgersaal" (citizen hall) was built as a meeting place of the Marian Congregation of Men (a community under Jesuit direction) in 1709
according the design of Giovanni Antonio Viscardi.
Since 1778 it has been used as a church. In a niche over the red marble portal a figurine of the Virgin with
Child on a crescent moon can be viewed. The two-storey construction of the baroque external facade corresponds
to the divison in upper and lower church. On the lower floor is the shrine of Pater Rupert Mayer.
He was a Jesuit working for the resistance against the Nazi regime and was canonized in 1987 by Pope Johannes Paul II.
His shrine is a destination of pilgrimage.
The altar of the praying hall on the upper floor possesses a late baroque masterpiece of Andreas Faistenberger(1710/11)
the relief "Mariae Verkündigung". Another outstanding work is Ignaz Günther's Guardian Angel sculpture of 1763 underneath the organ
gallery. The 13 oil paintings by Franz Joachim Beich (c. 1710) show landscape paintings of Marian places of pilgrimage in Bavaria.
Very typical for the Madonna worshipping are the two Baroque Madonnas of the Protecting Cloak close to the stairs.
