The Angel of
Peace monument is located at the downtown end of
Prinzregentenstrasse near the Isar embankment. This
monument commemorates the twenty-five years of peace that
followed the war of 1870-71. Driving by car along
Prinzregentenstrasse you may circle this monument. Feel
free to park your car nearby and stroll around in the
park that surrounds the monument! Have a walk on the Isar
embankment! The
round reliefs at the base of this monument depict some
leading personalities of the former Kaiserreich at the
turn of the century, e.g.chancellor Bismarck and the
generals Moltke, Roon and von der Tann. The gold mosaics
in the hall nearby are allegorical representations of
Peace and War, Victory and Blessing of Civilisation.
Back in your car, just
cross the Luitpoldbruecke (Luitpold Bridge) to reach the
city! The bridge is adorned with stone-figures that
personify the four groups of Bavarian population:
Bavarian, Swabians, Franconians and the population of the
Palatinate.
