Friedensengel - Angel of Peace - Prinzregentenstraße

The Angel of Peace monument is located at the downtown end of Prinzregentenstrasse near the Isar embankment. This monument commemorates the twenty-five years of peace that followed the war of 1870-71. Driving by car along Prinzregentenstrasse you may circle this monument. Feel free to park your car nearby and stroll around in the park that surrounds the monument! Have a walk on the Isar embankment!

The round reliefs at the base of this monument depict some leading personalities of the former Kaiserreich at the turn of the century, e.g.chancellor Bismarck and the generals Moltke, Roon and von der Tann. The gold mosaics in the hall nearby are allegorical representations of Peace and War, Victory and Blessing of Civilisation.

Back in your car, just cross the Luitpoldbruecke (Luitpold Bridge) to reach the city! The bridge is adorned with stone-figures that personify the four groups of Bavarian population: Bavarian, Swabians, Franconians and the population of the Palatinate.
