The 290 m (950 ft) high Olympic Tower in the Olympic Park is three times higher than the twin towers of the Frauenkirche and is one of the most impressive landmarks of Munich. It was inaugurated in 1968 and is the central point for television and radio in South Bavaria. The whole tower is divided in aerial, tower and two so called baskets. The "Postkorb (post basket)" houses different facilities for radio and television. The "Aussichtskorb (view basket)" comprises the revolving restaurant at a height of 180 m (590 ft)
where you can sit down and enjoy delicate dishes and the nice view towards Munich and the sourroundings while the restaurant is turning around its own axis in 53 minutes.
The two platforms (one at an open terrace, one inside) at 620 and 630 feet above sea level offer a splendid panoramic view for everybody. It takes only 27 seconds to get to the platforms via express elevator. The exhibition area above the restaurant shows exhibitions and competitions concerning sports, science, art, culture and photography.
