Between university and Gisela street exaggerates the Triumphal Arch the
Leopoldstraße.
Today you should see the Triumphal Arch as a memorial of peace.
After the destruction in the Second World War the Triumphal Arch has not been completely
reconstructed.
Before the war it was dedicated to the glory of the Bavarian
army, but in this time it is composed to remember the cruelty of any war with
Wilhelm Hausenstein´s inscription: "Dedicated to
victory, destroyed in war, exhorting in peace."
Triumphal Arch based on the Arch of Constantine in Rome was the last work of Friedrich von Gärtner. On top it is crowned by a statue of Bavaria accompanied by a quadriga of lions striding out to meet the returning soldiers.
